NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Farm to Families program at Second Harvest Food Bank is kicking off, and in need of volunteers. Shifts for families, including children 12 years and older, are available.

The Farm to Families program connects local farmers, community volunteers and those struggling with hunger to create a more food-secure environment.

Volunteers work to support local producers by helping care for crops and other plants throughout the growing season. In return, Second Harvest partner farms donate a portion of their food to people who need it.

To offer the safest environment possible for volunteers, volunteer groups will not be larger than ten. Other safety measures, like social distancing, will also be taken.

"This is a great opportunity for families who might be looking for an activity to get outdoors to do so while also helping their community," said Second Harvest Food Bank CEO Nancy Keil. "We are following strict guidelines to ensure social distancing requirements are met to keep everyone healthy."

Daytime shifts are available Monday through Saturday. Those interested in volunteering can sign up here.
