NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Republican Sens. Tom Cotton and Ted Cruz on Friday offered dueling endorsements of the two leading Republicans running for the U.S. Senate from Tennessee, Bill Hagerty and Manny Sethi.

Hagerty supporters crowded into a room in Franklin Friday to hear what he had to say at a breakfast event. He was joined by Sen. Cotton of Arkansas and Sen. Marsha Blackburn.

He talked to reporters about where the race stands saying, "Yeah I'm feeling very confident about where we are. I was just talking to the President about this the other day. He called to congratulate me, saying you're in a great place Bill, and I said I remember sir what you told me when I first got into this. Run like you're one vote behind."

After leaving Williamson County, the group hit the highway to head to Montgomery County for a lunch with supporters there.

Meanwhile, Dr. Manny Sethi was in Mt. Juliet with Sen. Cruz of Texas.

Dr. Sethi said he continues to hear from Tennesseans about the issue of rural broadband, which is just one of the problems he wants to tackle.

The heated race has become increasingly tense ever since early voting opened last week in Tennessee.

There’s been a notable spike in attack ads and doling out high-profile endorsements for a seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Lama Alexander, who previously announced he would retire at the end of his term.
