Rutherford County Sheriff, Robert Arnold pleaded not guilty to 13 federal charges connected to an e-cigarettes business at the county jail.
His attorneys entered the pleas Tuesday morning in court. A hearing was also supposed to take place but was postponed.
In the indictment, Sheriff Arnold was named, along with both the Chief Deputy of Administration at the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, Joe L. Russell, II, and Arnold's uncle, John Vanderveer for allegedly defrauding the county of thousands of dollars through the sale of e-cigarettes to inmates.
A trial date was expected to be set within the next three months.
