DOVER, Tenn. (WTVF) — Security officers stopped an armed intruder after he got into the Stewart County courthouse and made it all the way to the judge’s chambers.

Sheriff Frankie Gray confirms 46-year-old Michael Dupont made his way in during the middle of the day Wednesday and was carrying a brush hook, which is a type of large axe. Court was not in session at the time.

Dupont is accused of taking the judge's gavel and then making his way into the secure judge's chambers. Fortunately, the judge was not there at the time.

Security was alerted and took Dupont into custody at the scene without incident. No one was hurt.

Aside from the brush hook, he was also found to be in possession of drugs. Why he invaded the courthouse is still under investigation and security will now be carefully reviewed.
