GATLINBURG, Tenn. (AP) - Great Smoky Mountains National Park is looking for volunteers to help tell visitors about a turbine wheel-operated mill built in 1886.
Mingus Mill is one-half mile north of the Oconaluftee Visitor Center near Cherokee, North Carolina.
The mill custom ground a variety of grains, including corn, wheat and rye, in a fraction of the time needed by other types of mills.
The park says volunteers will work with Great Smoky Mountains Association employees to help visitors learn more about Mingus Mill and its unique turbine wheel.
Each volunteer is asked to work at least one four-hour shift per week from May through November.
