SMYRNA, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Smyrna Police Department showed its support for people battling cancer with a lip-sync video on Friday.

Officers with the department, the fire department and city employees lip-synced to the song 'Fight Song' by Rachel Platten.

"It doesn't discriminate to who it affects. I think most people know somebody or has come in contact with somebody who has been affected by cancer. So many people can relate to the video. We were talking about doing something that shared a message and when we started talking about the people in our community affected by cancer that was the first song that came to our minds," Officer Laura Enright said.

Enright said the department filmed the video last fall as part of the lip-sync challenge but the video meant so much more. They wanted to create the video to support two officers and the son of a firefighter battling cancer.

"The town of Smyrna is one big family," she said.

Corporal Shane Prater was diagnosed with colon cancer last May.

"Finding out that I have cancer is the most overwhelming thing that has happened to me but we're real close at the Smyrna PD. I've been there 19 years and it's more like family than a job that you go to every day. You just have to stay positive and just know that tomorrow is going to be better than the day before," Prater said.

"My message would be stay strong, stay positive, pray about it and surround yourself with friends. Stay on the positive side because if you just get on the negative side and dwell on that I think it can bring you down and affect your outcome. There's a tremendous amount of work that went into the video and I want to thank every body that played a part in that and I want to thank the city," said Prater.

The department posted the video on their Facebook page and in less than 24 hours it was shared more than 4,000 times.
