Smyrna Police Chief Kevin Arnold was sent to the hospital after having a heart attack.
He was scheduled to have a triple bypass surgery Friday.
NewsChannel 5 talked to Arnold Thursday. He was in good spirits while in the hospital awaiting surgery, and said he had heard from many people in the community.
