NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Animals and employees at Metro Animal Care and Control will have a more peaceful environment thanks to $15,000 that was raised for sound baffling at the shelter.
Sound panels are now in place in all four rooms where dog are kenneled.
Before they were installed, the sound decibels in the shelter were equivalent of listening to a jackhammer all day, making it stressful for the animals and potential adopters.
Friends of Metro Animal Care and Control campaigned to raise the funds for the shelter in hopes to increase the well-being of the animals.
The shelter has already reported that the dogs seem happier in the quieter space.
MACC is the city's only open intake shelter and it operates at two times capacity on average.
If you're interested in taking home any of the available animals, MACC will be holding a "Home Fur Thanksgiving" event by waving all adoption fees from November 21 to 27.
Even if you can't adopt, the shelter offers a short-term fostering program called Bow Wow Breakout. You can bring a shelter dog home for the holiday on Wednesday, and return the pet to the shelter as early as Saturday.
The short-term fostering gives dogs a break from the shelter and helps volunteers learn more about their personalities, allowing the dogs to find a better forever home match.
