Springfield Police Make Arrest In Cold Case

Springfield Police have made an arrest in a 2014 fatal hit and run accident.

Ronnie Glenn Gainous, 40, is now charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a death.  He was released from the Robertson County Jail on $10,000 bond.  Gainous is a Springfield resident.

Springfield Police Chief David Thompson said on December 30, 2014, officers were called to a hit and run accident at 5:15 p.m. in front of Rod’s Car Care on Memorial Boulevard.  Joseph Allen Moss, 37, was found lying by the curb and was pronounced dead at the scene.  Moss is also a Springfield resident.

Chief Thompson said Springfield Police first started looking at Gainous as a possible suspect in the accident over a year ago, but it took time to build the case.  Over the course of the last year, officers have been fielding tips which have helped with the investigation.

“In our case, we believe sometimes if it takes a little bit longer, then take a little bit longer to make sure we do it right the first time,” said Chief Thompson.

Chief Thompson said the investigation is far from over.  He said detectives believe there were other people in the vehicle with Gainous, and he expects more arrests in the case.

“We feel like we put a lot of time and energy into this,” said Chief Thompson.  “Some specific investigators have worked hard on this to put the pieces together.”

Chief Thompson did not give a timetable for when more arrests could be made in the case.
