SRO accused of using excessive force on 12-year-old student

COLUMBIA, Tenn. (WTVF) — A school resource officer in Maury County has been indicted after allegedly using excessive force on a 12-year-old student.

According to court documents, Timothy Byrdsong was indicted by a grand jury and later released after posting a $15,000 bond.

Byrdsong has been charged with official misconduct, aggravated assault and aggravated child abuse. It's unclear how old the student was at the time of the alleged incident.

Additional details were not yet known.

In a statement, attorney Doak Patton said Byrdsong was “just doing his job which is to protect and serve.”
