Stabbing Of Healthcare Worker Leads To Officer-Involved Shooting

Jackson Police officials said a stabbing of a healthcare worker resulted in an officer-involved shooting in Jackson.

The Pathways Behavioral Health Services worker was stabbed Thursday afternoon by a patient.

Police said when they were called to the scene, the situation then resulted in an officer-involved shooting.

According to WBBJ Preliminary information indicated that the suspect, 45-year-old Don Fitzgerald White was being treated at Pathways Behavioral Health Services in Jackson, when he stabbed a female employee with a knife several times.

Two officers from the Jackson Police Department initially responded to the scene, when the situation escalated, at least one of the officers fired his weapon at White. He later died at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Reports stated White's body was taken to Nashville for an autopsy.

The woman who sustained injuries in the original attack underwent medical treatment at Regional One in Memphis. 

The Jackson-Madison County General Hospital and Pathways was placed on lockdown following the incident.

The investigation remained ongoing.
