CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Chattanooga has been a city with a heavy heart as the funerals began for the servicemen killed there.

Staff Sergeant David Wyatt was laid to rest Friday at the city's National Cemetery where there was an overwhelming show of support.

Thousands of people came out to the cemetery, and many also lined the procession route from Hixon.

Almost everyone waved an American flag to show their support for this fallen hero.

The body of Staff Sergeant Wyatt arrived at the National Cemetery just before 3:30 p.m. Friday central time.

Hundreds of Boy Scouts lined the road into the cemetery, while hundreds more watched the first of five funerals for the four marines and one sailor killed in Chattanooga.

“Kids have lost their father, mothers lost their sons,” said Sarah Holcomb, a Chattanooga resident. “It’s just so uncalled for. Such a tragic thing.”

Funeral services for Staff Sergeant Wyatt were held earlier Friday in Hixon, and he was one of two of the fallen heroes from that shooting who was being buried at the National Cemetery.
