NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Making sure Nashville teens know how to use their money -- that's the goal of knowledgeBANK.

The local start-up group is partnering with Mayor David Briley's Youth Employment Initiative, Opportunity Now, to increase teens' financial literacy.

Their program includes weekly workshops, texts with financial education videos, and help teens set savings goals. Nearly 500 teens have been helped by the start-up.

KnowledgeBANK's founder said not enough people recognize how important money management is for young people.

"At 15, and 16-years-old, students are making decisions that will impact them for the rest of their life and that's a heavy responsibility and unfortunately there are very few resources that prepare us to manage our money especially at a young age," Hale said.

KnowledgeBANK's curriculum is based around its students financial goals, including saving for a car, learning about student loans, or starting a business.
