State education officials say they take responsibility for a series of computer glitches caused by a vendor that forced students to stop using a new online assessment test known as TNReady.
Education Commissioner Candice McQueen, who has now ordered that students take the test using pencil and paper, said Tuesday that online testing is still the future.
McQueen told reporters Tuesday that the massive computer glitches that prevented students from taking the online test Monday were the result of a procedural problem with vendor Measurement Inc.
The state awarded the company with a contract worth more than $107 million. McQueen said the state has only paid the company $1.6 million and would not pay more for the problems.
Officials at Measurement Inc. did not return calls seeking comment.
