Two people were arrested for possibly trafficking heroin after a traffic stop on Interstate 40.

The incident happened December 4 near mile marker 158 on Interstate 40 in Hickman County.

A trooper with the Tennessee Highway Patrol stopped a 2014 Ford Explorer that had been following to close to a tractor trailer.

The trooper found the driver and two passengers inside the vehicle, and according to reports, only the passenger in the rear could give him any identification. That passenger was later released.

After interviews with the other two in the vehicle, the trooper said discrepancies in their stories and indications of possible criminal activity led to a request to search the vehicle.

The two consented, and a red pouch containing approximately three grams of heroin along with drug paraphernalia was found concealed in the moon roof area.

The passenger, identified as 41-year-old Jessie Boatman, of Mississippi, claimed responsibility for the items. She was arrested at the scene.

The driver was identified as 27-year-old Thomas Ross, also of Mississippi. He was arrested for outstanding warrants.
