Local Company On Mission To Hire Young Men

Posted

Owners at a local skateboard manufacturer have been answering their community’s concerns that young men in the area may not have positive influences and opportunities.

Salemtown Board Co. on Buchanan Street began in 2012 when gentrification really started happening in the Germantown/Salemtown area.

One of the owners, Will Anderson, approached many of the long-standing residents asking what they thought was needed in the neighborhood, and their response was positive influences and opportunities for young men in that area.

To help, Salemtown Board Co. set out to hire four teens from the neighborhood for six months at a time where they learn job skills and responsibility.

They then help the teens find more employment when their six months is up.

The folks at Salemtown Board Co. said they feel it's their responsibility to give back to the neighborhood, and they added they hope other businesses follow in their footsteps.
