Man Tried To Impersonate Firefighter At Crash

Posted

A man who investigators said impersonated firefighters at the scene of a crash has been facing criminal impersonation charges.

WDEF-TV reported Paul Herrell Jr. was found directing traffic at a crash site Thursday evening.

Highway 58 Fire Department personnel told traffic investigators Herrell was not a firefighter. Deputies were informed Herrell had shown up to incidents several times, trying to act in an official capacity.

Herrell consented to a search of his car where authorities found a light bar installed with flashing red and yellow lights as well as strobe lights in the tail lamps and yellow lights in the windshield. Inside the car were a siren, a public address system and a Highway 58 Fire Department hat.

No phone number was listed for Herrell in a local directory.
