Former Trooper Charged With Misconduct, Theft

Posted

A former Trooper with the Tennessee Highway Patrol has been charged with misconduct and theft after an investigation.

Officials said they started investigating 30-year-old Brent McCawley, of Murfreesboro, on May 12.

Those with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said they developed information McCawley was responsible for the disappearance of drugs that had been meant for training his drug-detection K9. He had been assigned as a Trooper and K9 handler in Coffee County.

McCawley resigned from his position.

A grand jury returned the indictments on McCawley Tuesday. He was charged with three counts of official misconduct and one count of theft over $1,000.

McCawley was booked into the Coffee County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
