Interstate 75 Lanes Back Open After Rock Slide

Posted

Officials in Tennessee said the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Campbell County have reopened to traffic nearly two weeks after a large rock slide closed the roadway near the Kentucky border.

Media reported the lanes reopened Wednesday night. Tennessee Department of Transportation spokesman Mark Nagi said the northbound lanes remain closed.

TDOT awarded a $2.9 million emergency contract last week to Charles Blalock & Sons, Inc. The contract included the removal of slide debris, stabilization of the existing slope, and interstate repairs.

The contract stipulated that the road's southbound lanes reopen by March 17 and that at least one northbound lane reopen by March 24.

TDOT officials said the entire project must be completed by April 15.
