KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — You often hear of suspects caught after they're captured on security video, but, you've never heard of a case quite like this one.
In this case, security video shows two people injecting themselves. The video from the camera is awkward -- recorded sideways and there's lots of it.
"Ten hours worth of video recorded," said theft victim Jillian James.
So, how did they couple come to be recorded in their own home shooting up? James said it started with the theft of her Vivitar motion sensor Wi-fi security camera off her front porch.
James -- who lives in east Tennessee -- was out of town when the camera alerted her that there was motion on the porch. "I logged on and I saw a strange place and people I didn't know. It was very disturbing," James said.
Apparently, the high-tech camera was taken by someone off of her front porch. But it still delivered hours and hours of video showing a couple unaware that their every movement was being sent out on a direct live feed to James.
"They had no idea it was recording. They had plugged it up and tried to connect it and use it but it was locked to my server," James said.
She was able to use the video to trace the location of the couple and police paid them a visit. Her camera was recovered at the scene, and the couple -- for now -- issued a citation.
The case remains under investigation.
The couple claims the camera was given to them by someone else.
Police says it is odd to see a security camera actually stolen. But, these days as the devices become more high-tech and expensive ... the cameras can become targets for thieves.
