NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Students have been preparing to head back to the classroom, and for many college students, it'll be their first time away from home.

Sunday the Martha O'Bryan Center in Nashville held its annual "College-bound Bash."

First generation college students were invited to stock-up on items they need, like towels and sheets for their dorm room.

"Our first generation students don't have role models to help them navigate that college scene,” said Robyn Price, of the Martha O'Bryan Center. “So that's why it's really important to help them not only academically, but to help them through some of the problems and issues they face on a day-to-day basis."

Over 100 students received help, and they'll be paired with a mentor they can lean-on during the year to come.
