NASHVILLE, Tenn (WTVF) — Christmas came early for a group of Metro Nashville elementary school students, but the gifts didn't stop with a shopping spree.

Jennifer Mineo with the help of other donors gave eighteen $100 gift cards to a group of fourth grade students at Neely's Bend Elementary School. Mineo went to high school with Christie Harris, the students' teacher. Mineo says for a while she's been donating meals for the kids and this time she wanted to do something special.

The students showed up to the Rivergate Target and were able to buy anything they wanted.

"This is the season for giving, and Mrs. Jennifer Mineo gave back to and gives back to my classroom along with many donors to help make this day possible for my kids to get a shopping spree here," said Harris, who says it takes a village to care for the kids.

"It’s such a blessing because this maybe the only Christmas that my students may get," said Harris.

But it wasn't all about the kids. Harris and her students were able to gift Mineo with a proclamation from the city for her generosity.

"I appreciated that they did that, it was very nice but as along as the kids are help and have what they need, that’s what I’m after," Mineo said. "I am elated, these kids have become very special to me and to see the look on their faces when they came through that line with whatever they wanted is was worth a lot."

Parents who were there say they were thankful for the donation.
