TBI Looks Into Ooltewah High school Rape Case

Posted

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has gotten involved in an Ooltewah High school hazing and rape case.

TBI officials said they will conduct an investigation into a Gatlinburg Police Detective's testimony in the case, at the request of the District Attorney.

State investigators will look into whether Detective Rodney Burns committed perjury on the stand.

According to reports from Chattanooga, the D.A. claimed that there were inconsistencies between Burns' testimony in a Hamilton County Court room and his written report from the night of December 22.

The Gatlinburg Detective testified Monday in a Preliminary hearing for three school employees accused of failing to report the crime after a teen was sodomized with a pool cue and suffered internal injuries.

Critics including the Chattanooga Police Chief claimed the detective minimized the seriousness of the crime by saying "something stupid kids do."

Three teenagers were charged with rape and assault in the case in Sevier County.
