NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A tip to social media led to police locating a missing teenager who escaped from a Gallatin youth facility more than a month ago.
Gallatin police confirmed Thursday morning that Dylan Regenold was taken into custody by police in Birmingham, Alabama.
Regenold was been staying at the Volunteer Youth Academy in Gallatin when police say he pried a window open and used his bed sheet to escape from the second floor.
He had been missing since mid-December. On January 9, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued an Endangered Child Alert in the case.
His mother, Cassara Regenold, told reporter Nick Beres that a Facebook tip led them to finding him. She believes he may have hitchhiked south and could have been living among the homeless population.
Cassara says her son suffers from mental issues and that's why he was originally placed at the youth academy.
It's unclear if he's facing any charges.
