A dozen teens were placed in handcuffs, and then escorted out of school in connection to a string of car thefts and burglaries.

They will spend the Tuesday evening behind bars. Police believe teens were the masterminds behind several car break-ins, all of which were unlocked, and some even had the keys inside.

The teens targeted nearly 30 unlocked vehicles in several Mt. Juliet neighborhoods, some gun owners even left their fire arms inside.

Mt. Juliet police say they worked with several other agencies to solve this string of burglaries. That police work led them to McGavock High School, where several students were walked out in handcuffs.

Two of the teens were arrested at a home in Hermitage. Police were able to return the 12 cars to its original owners, and recover 8 stolen guns.

Police said they hoped Tuesday's arrests sends a message that there are consequences for your actions.

"When you are out here committing unlocked car burglaries, stealing cars and also stealing fire arms or whatever else may be in that vehicle there's consequences to that. For a period of time we did not know who was responsible but we continued to investigate our detectives worked very hard," said Capt. Tyler Chandler, Mt. Juliet Police Department.

Mt. Juliet police worked with Metro police, Brentwood police, and the Wilson County Sheriff's Office to find the people responsible for the vehicle burglaries.

The teenagers given several charges, including conspiracy to commit vehicle burglaries, and theft.

Police continued to remind people to lock their doors, especially through the holiday season.
