State officials have apologized for errors in a statewide test of the Emergency Alert System on Thursday that prompted major backlash from some residents.
On Thursday morning, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency sent a test alert to millions of cell phone users across the state. It was the first time they've conducted a state wide test since May of 2010.
Some residents said they were unaware TEMA was issuing a "test" because messages on their phones didn't include the words "This is a test."
TEMA officials said their website also couldn't handle the massive amounts of traffic the test generated.
They said they are working to address issues before the next test.
