NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Tennesseans who were left unemployed by the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak could soon see their first $600 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation check.

Tuesday, the state sent close to $94 million in benefit payments to financial institutions for about 110,000 unemployed Tennesseans as part of the national coronavirus relief bill.

Most approved unemployment claimants will receive their payment via direct-deposit on April 15.

This week's payment includes one installment of the compensation, but Tennessee will provide retroactive pay to March 29 in upcoming payments.

The state says the number of payments is expected to increase throughout the week and will likely exceed 150,000.

Last week, the state sent 114,000 people more than $33 million in unemployment benefits as part of Tennessee's unemployment compensation benefit.
