SPARTA, Tenn. – A student at Tennessee Tech University died over the weekend after he slipped and fell at Burgess Falls State Park.

Officials with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said the victim's body was found Sunday afternoon. He was identified as 27-year-old Lamouki Aref Motamedi.

His body was discovered by a visitor who was looking down at the bottom of the falls.

According to a release, Motamedi was viewing the falls from the top when he slipped and fell to his death.

The observation deck had apparently been closed for repairs after it was damaged from heavy rain a few months back.

Sheriff's officials said the area was fenced off and had signs placed that prohibited access to the deck.

It was unknown when he arrived at the park. At this point, it appears he was alone at the time of the incident.

Due to the investigation, the park was closed Sunday but officials said it would likely reopen Monday.

No further details were available.
