NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Tennessee Department of Education is partnering with PBS stations across the state to bring educational content to students who are out of the classroom due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The department will offer first through eighth grade students up to 30 hours of instructional lessons per week beginning April 6.

"We know so many Tennesseans have grown up learning from public television and are so grateful to PBS for embodying the volunteer spirit and supporting our students in this critical way,” said Education Commissioner Penny Schwinn. “We are amazed by the response of PBS and Tennessee’s educators to support at-home learning during these unprecedented times.”

The schedule includes 30-minute segments that will air from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Central every weekday on the main channels of the PBS stations in Tennessee. Viewers can also watch or record four more hours of educational content that will air overnight.

TDOE said the videos can also be found on its YouTube page after the air.

The content will cover English language arts and math for first though sixth grade students. Recorded video lessons will be available online beginning April 13 for seventh and eighth grade students.

TDOE will post accompanying lesson plans and work packets on its website for teachers and students to use.
