Tennessee ranked in top 10 states with most sex offenders per capita

(WTVF) — The Volunteer State recently ranked in the top 10 states with the most sex offenders per capita, according to a report by AsecureLife.

The study found Tennessee has 359 sex offenders per every 100,000 people.

The top ten states are below:

  1. Oregon
  2. Arkansas
  3. Delaware
  4. Michigan
  5. Wisconsin
  6. South Dakota
  7. Wyoming
  8. Kansas
  9. Tennessee
  10. Florida and Mississippi

AsecureLife looked at data from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and compared the total number of registered offenders with census data to determine the number.

The state did see some improvement from 2018, when Tennessee ranked No. 5 most registered sex offenders.

The states with the fewest sex offenders per capita are:

  1. Maryland
  2. Indiana
  3. Connecticut
  4. Ohio
  5. Massachusetts and Pennsylvania
  6. Oklahoma
  7. New Mexico
  8. New Jersey
  9. Iowa
  10. Kentucky
