NASHVILLE, Tenn (WTVF) — Volunteers with the Red Cross have been busy across the state recently including helping with this apartment fire earlier today where 35 people were displaced.

Hundreds of volunteers have been deployed already this year to help with flooding, fires, tornadoes and more.

“To say that 2019 is a boring year is just a complete lie, because since January we’ve deployed over 330 volunteers to help service folks in need,” said Sherri McKinney, Regional Director of Communications and Marketing.

McKinney says staff may even have to send volunteers to Nebraska as flooding in the Midwest continues.

“This region is known throughout the country as being one of the regions that deploys the most volunteers to service Americans in need; not just Tennessee but Americans in need.”

But with such an active season so far this McKinney says the Red Cross needs more help.
“We need more volunteers, we need more donors; we need to be able to continue this business of helping people when they really need it.”

On April 15, the Red Cross will hold its annual LifeSaver breakfast to raise money.
