NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Texas man has been arrested after police found 42.2 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle.
Officers said 39-year-old Mario Reyes Garza was stopped on Interstate 40 near Bellevue Thursday afternoon for following another car too closely.
The police officer who made the stop said Garza and a female friend gave conflicting stories about their relationship and travel plans. Garza granted the officer permission to check the vehicle, which is when the 31 shrink-wrapped packages of marijuana were found.
Garza, from Lubbock, Texas, told police he was taking the marijuana to Kentucky where he would have made $3,000.
Authorities said Garza told them, “Times are tough, and I was trying to make money.”
He was charged with possessing marijuana for resale and taken into custody. Garza was being held in lieu of an $11,000 bond.
Police said Garza’s female friend was not charged.
