You have a chance to learn how to protect yourself and your family from a house fire. Lowe's Home Improvement will host events throughout the day to help get you prepared.

Fall and Winter are the peak seasons for house fires. Each year, nearly 3-thousand Americans die from home fires, while Carbon Monoxide poisoning claims approximately 450 lives, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Many of these tragedies could be prevented with the proper placement and number of smoke and CO alarms, as well as maintenance of working alarms.

Lowe's employees and fire officials will work together to show you how to make a fire escape plan, maintain alarms, and the importance of upgraded technology. Just to give you an idea of how important this is, the majority of house fires death are due to no smoke alarms or non-working detectors.

Seven different Lowe's locations will be hosting this event from 10 a.m. until noon.
