All may be calm now over the Cumberland River, but that wasn’t the case when future aviation experts showed of their work at a festival at Riverfront Park.

The Red Bull Flugtag was held Saturday. Flugtag means “flying day” in German.

According to reports, 60,000 people went down to the river to watch more than 30 teams compete by creating homemade, human-powered flying machines.

They took the devices to the top of an elevated flight deck to see if they would fly or flop. Of course, they all ended up in the river, bringing out many smiles, cheering, and laughter from the crowd.

Each team picked a theme, and many even danced or performed a short routine before launching their machines.

A similar event was also held in Pittsburgh in August.
