Members of the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition rallied at the Metro Courthouse to fight for the safety of Nashville's immigrants.
The agency and some of the city's immigrant leaders gathered at the Metro Courthouse fighting for those measures to be passed.
The group asked specifically for clarification of the roles and responsibilities of local government, as well as bringing an end to using the Davidson County jail as an immigrant detention center.
An immigrant woman told NewsChannel 5 she and her family have suffered in fear of being stopped by police.
"My youngest daughter asks me why I don't drive her to dance class anymore. And I have to explain to her that is because if I get pulled over, I might not be able to see her again," said said.
So far, there's no timetable on when these proposals will officially be heard by city leaders.
