TN Democrats Call Attention To Possible Loss Of Hwy Funding

Tennessee Democrats have called a new law a fiscal disaster because it could cause the state to lose millions of dollars in federal highway funding.

Earlier this year, lawmakers passed a bill that would raise the minimum blood alcohol content for underage drivers from .02 to .08.

Democratic leaders said the bill is going to hurt Tennessee's infrastructure.

"Actually there's a dramatic change in the way the legislature has worked. People warned that this would lead to significant mistakes, fiscal review said we are not able to carry out their function, nothing was done, and this is the result," said Representative Mike Stewart.

Stewart said Republican Speaker Beth Harwell is to blame for not taking more time to make a thorough fiscal review.

No word on this issue yet from Speaker Harwell.
