NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Monday night's tornado that hit Nashville is an eerie reminder for locals of the 2008 tornado.
A string of tornadoes stretched from Texas to Ohio in 2008. The line of storms killed at least 52 people.
The storms hit Nashville the night of Super Tuesday. Jackson County was one of the counties hit the hardest. Part of Union University was destroyed with nearly half of dorms destroyed.
A gas station in Hartsville was damaged, triggering a large explosion. President George W. Bush visited the area in the days following the deadly storms.
But beyond the 2008 tornado was two other tornadoes in 1998 and 1933 - all three of which struck the Five Points area of East Nashville. The 1998 and 1933 tornadoes occurred during the afternoon, while the 2020 tornado occurred in the middle of the night.
