CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - The truck driver involved in the nine-vehicle wreck on Interstate 75 that killed six people last week had been cited for careless driving the previous day.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol crash report, 39-year-old truck driver Benjamin S. Brewer sideswiped a truck while attempting to pass on June 24 in Wildwood, Florida. Brewer was issued a citation for careless driving.

One day later, Chattanooga police say Brewer's semi-truck hit eight other vehicles that were stopped due to construction. Six people died in the crash, while six others received non-life-threatening injuries.

National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Keith Holloway said on Monday that it is too early to say why Brewer failed to stop. Police have not charged Brewer with any crimes.
