NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee State University Director of Athletics Teresa Phillips has announced she will retire in June 2020.

The announcement comes at homecoming festivities are beginning to get underway at TSU.

In a letter to the TSU Community, Phillips says she had been contemplating retirement for several years and now was the right time.

Phillips was named Athletic Director in 2002. She had previously been the head coach of the Women's Basketball team at TSU.

In the letter, Phillips said she shared her intention to retire with President Glenda Glover back in August.

Phillips announced the Teresa Lawrence Phillips TSU Student-Athlete Completion Scholarship. The $5,000 scholarship is designed to help TSU athletes with post semester financial needs.

Each student who receives the scholarship could receive up to $500.
