A former Clarksville school bus driver was arrested after failing to report an alleged sexual assault on her bus by a stranger she allowed on board.
"I don't even know where to begin with how upsetting this has been," said Elise Shelton, Clarksville Montgomery County Schools System.
A school district in disbelief, after a 15-year-old Clarksville student , excited to learn, was sexually assaulted on the school bus.
And the woman who was supposed to keep the young students safe, let the stranger on the bus.
"It's very concerning. We absolutely do not want anyone who's not supposed to be on the bus. Clearly the person who got on the school bus that morning, was unauthorized," said Shelton.
53-year-old Susan Boykin was arrested and charged with sexual battery after the young teen reported that Boykin walked on the bus and began to kiss and hug him. However, Ruth Blackwell never reported the incident, in fact it was her last day and she left silently.
"The bus driver came in for her final, and she said I'm just glad it's my last day or something along those lines," said Shelton.
In the affidavit, Blackwell even appeared to be happy it was her last day.. because if it wasn't, she knows she would have been fired.
"Bus drivers are trained to let us know if anything happens. They're obviously trained not to allow anyone on your school bus who's not authorized," said Shelton.
Blackwell now faces a charge of criminal responsibility, and the school district says she will never have a job responsible for its students ever again.
"We just want to make sure that our kids are protected and that's our number 1 priority," said Shelton.
The student is receiving counseling from the school, and Blackwell was charged for allowing the woman on the school bus, and for not reporting the incident.
