A popular ride sharing program has extended its business in the Mid-state to Clarksville.
Uber has provided services in Nashville for a couple of years, but started offering rides to Clarksville residents on Thursday.
Mayor Kim McMillan was joined by Uber's general manager Thursday to announce Clarksville, the fifth largest city in the state, as the latest city in Tennessee to offer the ride sharing program.
"It is a great community, Fort Campbell, Austin Peay University, a vibrant downtown," Uber General Manager Luke Marklin said.
However, local cab companies were not happy about this newest addition.
"Our major concern is not the competition. We like to have competition, as far as the regulations there are no regulations," ABC Cabs owner, Kahacoy Kinfe said.
Uber has worked with leaders at Fort Campbell to be able to offer the ride sharing service on Fort Campbell's post, but until then, Uber drivers have not been allowed on base.
