USPS Prepares For Holiday Rush Next Week

The Post office expects to deliver 850 millions packages this holiday season, which is estimated to be a ten percent increase from 2016.

With that in mind, the United States Postal Service wants to make sure packages are delivered on time and deliveries don't end up in the wrong hands.

USPS expects to deliver 180 million packages the week before Christmas.

A new postal service feature called Informed Delivery allows residential users to view digital images of their incoming letter mail before it is delivered to their address.

USPS Strategic Communications Specialist for Tennessee Susan Wright said registered users can sign up online to see incoming images of their lettered mails.

Informed Delivery also allows residents to track their packages and make package delivery requests.

Other methods to secure your package include scheduling a delivery time, requiring signatures on delivery, having items sent to your job, or retrieving them from a UPS Store or Amazon Locker

Experts suggest you avoid sending cash by mail. Checks and money orders are safer because they may be canceled or reissued if stolen.

Wright said mailing letters and packages early is key to beat the rush and to hopefully ensure it reaching before Christmas.

Send letters out by Tuesday, December 19, priority mail by Wednesday, December 20, and priority mail express by Friday, December 22.
