Big money to investigate fake news is headed to the Mid-State.

A Vanderbilt researcher will be using $50,000 in grant money to look into articles that purposefully use wrong information to gain traction on social media.

Specifically, Lisa Fazio will be looking into what she calls “debunking articles" or verification stories put out by groups like Politifact and the Washington Post's Fact Checker, and how to improve them.

“Looking at these debunking articles they collected and seeing how effective they are, and seeing how they can be more effective,” she said.

Bottom line, Fazio said before you click “share” on Facebook, click through the article to make sure it’s real and written by someone you trust.
