FORT MYERS, Fla. (WTVF) — A startling new video shows exactly why the Move Over law is so important.

A Florida trooper was helping someone having car trouble on the side of the highway in Fort Myers, Florida-- when another car slammed into the back of his patrol car.

Police say the driver was trying to avoid slowing traffic and swerved onto the shoulder to prevent from rear-ending the car that was driving in front of it when it rammed into the police vehicle.

Thankfully the trooper wasn't hurt and was able to rescue the driver from the burning car.

The Move Over Law requires that motorists move over and change lanes to give safe clearance to law enforcement officers, ambulances, firefights, utility workers, sometimes tow-truck drivers.
