Temperatures have been dropping, and Metro officials said they're concerned about the homeless community being left in the cold.

Warming shelters have been in place across Nashville, and Hadley Park was just one of the places people can stay overnight to receive a warm meal, a hot shower, and a place to sleep.

Metro Social Services has made sure warming shelters are available when the temperature dips below 26 degrees. Thursday was the first night of this year that it opened a warming shelter. Friday and Saturday night, anyone can sleep at Hadley Park starting at 7:30 p.m. to stay out of the cold.

"We don't want to lose anyone in that population. If we can do something that will help to keep them alive and to sustain them, we're willing to do that," said Renee Prett, Executive Director of Metro Social Services.

Pets were also welcome to stay at the warming shelter. People can stay at the shelter until 7 a.m. on Saturday. The warming shelter will re-open Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and people can stay until 10 a.m. on Sunday.
