LAFAYETTE, Tenn. – A Westmoreland man was killed Wednesday in a head-on crash in Macon County.
The incident happened shortly before 3 p.m. along State Highway 52 at Old Highway 52.
Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said 36-year-old Michael Scruggs, Jr. was killed when his car was hit head-on by an SUV being driven by 26-year-old Amy Aulick.
According to troopers, Aulick was traveling east on State Highway 52 when she tried to illegally pass a truck pulling a trailer.
Scruggs, who was traveling westbound, was struck head-on. He died as a result of the collision.
He was wearing a seat belt.
Two others, including a 3-year-old child, were in Scruggs' vehicle at the time of the crash. A 42-year-old woman was not hurt, but officials said the child was injured.
Charges are said to be pending in the case.
