NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A new place to learn was unveiled for one group of Metro School students.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Thursday at John B. Whitsitt Elementary for the "Whitsitt Wonderland."
The outdoor space was created with the help of Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt and the Gardens of Babylon.
Leaders said they can't wait for kids to get a hands-on learning experience.
“I think it gives the students a great opportunity to learn in a hands-on environment where they can interact with nature, learn about different vegetables and foliage and vegetation that grows all around them, and so it gives them the opportunity to incorporate science and writing and other academic skills, and also social skills, in learning outside, in being in an outdoor classroom,” said Justin Uppinghouse, Whitsitt Elementary Principal.
Organizers said the project has been an effort to improve the health and well-being of children through advocacy, research, education and community-based interventions.
