LEBANON, Tenn. (WTVF) — Wilson County Board of Education members voted to require face masks for Kindergarten through 5th-grade students beginning Dec. 2.

Dr. Donna Wright made the recommendation during Monday night's meeting, saying the change needed to be made in order to keep the district from transitioning to virtual learning.

The requirement will be revisited during the Jan. 11 Board of Education meeting in which board members will reassess the county's COVID-19 numbers.

Students with medical exemptions will not have to wear a mask. Face coverings are already required for 6-12-grade students.

Dr. Wright said the district would reinforce the measure as long as COVID-19 active cases increase and quarantines grow.

Schools will provide masks for students who do not have access to one.
