LEBANON, Tenn. – The Director of Transportation for Wilson County Schools has been terminated from her job, district officials said Wednesday.

Director of Schools Dr. Donna Wright confirmed in a statement that Tiffany Lowery has been let go from her position after a series of incidents and issues.

Wilson County Schools outlined their reasoning behind the termination in a report, alleging that Lowery failed to complete essential functions of the job and changed bus routes daily without notifying students or parents.

According to Dr. Wright, Lowery was fired Tuesday. She had been with Wilson County Schools since December 31.

"Multiple reasons factored into the decision to terminate Ms. Lowery, but the bottom line is the decision was made in the best interest of the students and operations of Wilson County Schools," Wright said in a statement.

The final straw allegedly came when several drivers threatened to either retire or resign, claiming they could no longer work with her. The drivers who complained reportedly had 25 years or more experience on the job.

Shane Cook, operational director of transportation, has been appointed as interim director until a permanent replacement can be appointed.

Meanwhile school officials said parents should see no change except for a smoother running operation.

Wilson County has 17,200 students with about 13,000 of them being bus riders. There's currently a shortage of 15 drivers.
