CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A woman was arrested in Clarksville Thursday after she tried to cash a fraudulent check at a bank, Clarksville police said.

Officers were called to a bank on the 2500 block of Wilma Rudolph Blvd. around 2 p.m. The suspect - 25-year-old Tashina Gray of Nashville - had unsuccessfully attempted to cash the fraudulent check.

An officer arrived and saw a woman fitting Gray's description, when she ran away. The officer chased her on Wilam Rudolph Blvd. and quickly caught her.

Officers learned Gray had previously tried to cash another fraudulent check half an hour earlier at a bank on Madison Street in Clarksville.

It was determined the original checks, which had been altered, were stolen out of mailboxes in Nashville. Another altered check was found in Gray's purse, along with a drug wrapped in paper.

Gray was booked into the Montgomery County hail and charged with two counts of criminal simulation, two counts of forgery, evading arrest and simple possession. Her bond is set at $46,000.
